Childhood obesity continues to rise, so that the future health of our citizens is a serious problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control in 2009, only Washington and Colorado had an obesity rate below 20 percent.

Since 1980, the prevalence of obesity among children under school age children and adolescents has tripled, and remained approximately at the level of 32 percent. There are many reasons for children and adults are heavier, not enough of them exercise.

The National Association for Sport & Physical Education (NASPE) recommends that children under school age at least 60 minutes of structured physical activity per day and at least 60 minutes of unstructured physical activity.
